On the occasion of this beautiful Pentecost, I don’t want to withhold from you this rondeau – titled “Breath Too Short.
Breath too short
I gasp for breath no matter whether
Your smile greets me or turns away,
A twinkle in each eye together,
The iris of the rainbow’s ray,
With glimmering and radiant treasure,
In sparkling power beyond measure,
That brought a moment’s joy and pleasure
So that I faltered mid my say-
I gasp for breath.
Have I not striven for this ever?
Is this not what I await each day?
Your smile that flew to me however,
Until my monologue’s last fray.
Now thinking back on that endeavor,
I gasp for breath.
