On Mockery (during the National Bird Count)

On Mockery (during the National Bird Count)

On Mockery (during the National Bird Count)

Where lies the line between earnest and jest?
(I note the trochee is the resident bird.)
I confess I like to pee against statues—
A mix of delight and spite.

In every comedian lurks regret;
I do not care for laughter lacking drama.
The murder weapon once was a dinner knife—
Filleting is what I gladly do.

But beware of cynicism, deadly poison;
Be sparing with hate—serve it not too hot.
Dissect and carve, but not too rashly.
Fear not inflicted pain.

The mocker fears not “what if,”
Nor god, zealot, nor prophet.
