Trill Notes

Who would not cherish a friend like you?
Gifted with language, formidable in debate,
Never too proud for playful jest.

Crack and clash and bursts of laughter
Return to the otherwise languid tent.
Singular man without equal.
Though I may tease, I honor you.

I eagerly await your witty, cutting words—
You clever rogue, refined scamp,
Lonely Pole Star in the trembling North,
Singing songs in flageolet chords.

Then came a little pig with a long snout.
Silence in the circle.
