Last Plea
I do not know how much time you have—
No more than a few moments,
A few ticks of the second hand,
And it has passed again.
Life is lived forward.
We click ourselves into humps,
Choking on time pressure—
But enough fretting.
Enough wandering.
Take a deep breath.
We are driven onward,
Measured by lack of time,
Counted and paid by the hour.
I say it again and again:
It lasts but a while.
