Miguel Molinos, the last heretic

Miguel Molinos, the last heretic

Miguel Molinos, the last heretic (Dutch audio drama)

Rome, seventeenth century. At a time of religious unrest and sharp ecclesiastical control, a young Flemish priest closely follows the rise and fall of Quietism, a mystical movement centered around the Spanish thinker Miguel Molinos. His name would go down in history as that of an alleged heretic – perhaps even the last to be condemned as a “heresiarch” by the Church.

In this audio play, Miguel Molinos, the Last Heretic, unfolds the story of an intriguing and ambiguous figure. Was Molinos a deceiver who seduced devout believers with dangerous ideas, or an original mystic who went too far for his time? The answer remains open.

What for some was a path to soul peace, the Inquisition saw as a threat to the faith. Between devotion and suspicion, inspiration and condemnation, this audio play explores a dark page in the history of Christian mysticism.
