Moment and Wink

Moment and Wink

Moment and Wink

A moment!
A moment glimmers in your eyes,
The cradle of compassion.
How you looked at me—
My nerve paths startled,
Your gaze fastened onto mine.

What hides beneath your arches?
What strange power is this
That pierces every illusion?
A moment!
Already flown.

You did not blink. Unmoved,
You caught me in your gaze.
I felt myself weighed and measured,
And intricately elated.
A moment!

A wink!
A little wink to glance within.
My heart began to beat twice as fast,
For you have winked at me,
Tolerated my presence,
Even kindly nodded.

Now you may dispose of me.
I yield without protest—
Seen through, observed, intended.

A wink!
Time to swallow the lump in my throat
Lest I choke upon it.
My larynx dry,
My voice raised an octave
To sigh and softly sob.
A wink!
