En tant que m\u00e9decins g\u00e9n\u00e9ralistes, nous prescrivons des produits puissants qui interviennent profond\u00e9ment sur le fonctionnement psychique du patient. C\u2019est une grande responsabilit\u00e9. Th\u00e9oriquement, nous pourrions m\u00eame aggraver la situation en ajoutant de nouveaux produits au traitement. C\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs un reproche r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement adress\u00e9 au corps m\u00e9dical.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ce sont toutes des questions pertinentes. Le dilemme ne peut \u00eatre r\u00e9solu qu\u2019en faisant ce que je pr\u00e9conise toujours : si la prescription permet \u00e0 la personne de mieux remplir son r\u00f4le social, de prendre ses propres d\u00e9cisions et d\u2019accro\u00eetre son autonomie personnelle, alors vous avez fait quelque chose de bien et vous avez moralement l\u2019obligation de poursuivre dans cette voie.<\/span><\/p>\n

Techniquement parlant, vous avez certes cr\u00e9\u00e9 une d\u00e9pendance, car il est fort probable que le comportement perturbateur ou l\u2019angoisse insupportable r\u00e9apparaissent si le traitement est interrompu. Il faut \u00e9videmment mettre cela en balance avec les \u00e9ventuels inconv\u00e9nients et risques des m\u00e9dicaments choisis, car tout produit peut avoir un ou plusieurs effets secondaires.<\/span><\/p>\n

La prescription pharmaceutique n\u2019est pas quelque chose que l\u2019on doit prendre \u00e0 la l\u00e9g\u00e8re. Il nous faut parfois recourir \u00e0 des m\u00e9dicaments qui ne sont pas d\u00e9pourvus d\u2019inconv\u00e9nients. Nous sommes souvent contraints de faire appel \u00e0 des substances chimiques complexes, sous forme de m\u00e9dicaments, dans l\u2019espoir de redresser, provisoirement ou \u00e0 terme, une situation qui a pris une mauvaise direction.<\/span><\/p>\n

De nombreux malentendus circulent au sujet des m\u00e9dicaments psychiatriques et l\u2019on met souvent tout dans le m\u00eame sac, en traitant tous les produits de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re. Il y a pourtant une chose que je dois pr\u00e9ciser ici : ce n\u2019est pas une honte de prendre des comprim\u00e9s pour une maladie mentale. Certaines personnes prennent des m\u00e9dicaments contre l\u2019\u00e9pilepsie et d\u2019autres contre le diab\u00e8te. Si cela favorise votre propre autonomie, alors vous le faites, et le m\u00e9decin prescrit \u00e9galement ces m\u00e9dicaments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours de ma carri\u00e8re de pr\u00e8s de quarante ans, j\u2019ai n\u00e9anmoins constat\u00e9 de grands progr\u00e8s dans l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 des m\u00e9dicaments psychiatriques, avec de bien meilleurs r\u00e9sultats et moins d\u2019effets secondaires qu\u2019il y a encore, disons, vingt ans. Ces m\u00e9dicaments sont souvent indispensables dans un grand nombre de situations cliniques. Ce serait bien moins n\u00e9cessaire si nous pouvions offrir \u00e0 chacun un psychologue \u00e0 temps plein. Mais ce n\u2019est tout simplement pas possible.<\/span><\/p>\n
