Les psychanalystes du XXe si\u00e8cle, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque o\u00f9 la psychanalyse \u00e9tait \u00e0 la mode, estimaient que le TDAH \u00e9tait une d\u00e9viation n\u00e9vrotique. Disons que c\u2019\u00e9tait le prix \u00e0 payer pour la vie moderne, parce que les parents avaient de moins en moins de temps et d\u2019attention \u00e0 consacrer \u00e0 leurs enfants.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Les amph\u00e9tamines, de leur c\u00f4t\u00e9, avaient mauvaise r\u00e9putation. Elles \u00e9taient utilis\u00e9es ou d\u00e9tourn\u00e9es massivement pour maigrir, ou dans le cadre du dopage, notamment dans le cyclisme. Ces substances sont fortement addictives, avec une accoutumance rapide et des sympt\u00f4mes de sevrage d\u00e9sagr\u00e9ables lorsque la personne d\u00e9pendante cesse de les prendre. Prescrites \u00e0 bon escient par un m\u00e9decin, elles sont toutefois indispensables \u00e0 certains patients atteints de TDAH.<\/span><\/h3>\n

La mol\u00e9cule la plus utilis\u00e9e est la Rilatine, connue sous le nom de Ritalin aux \u00c9tats-Unis. Depuis la fin du si\u00e8cle dernier, nous savons que le TDAH n\u2019est pas une maladie typiquement infantile qui dispara\u00eet apr\u00e8s la pubert\u00e9. Environ 60 % des cas continuent \u00e0 souffrir de sympt\u00f4mes g\u00eanants \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge adulte. Le trouble est beaucoup plus fr\u00e9quent qu\u2019on ne pourrait le penser. Les estimations tournent autour de 8 % chez les enfants et de 5 % chez les adultes.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Dans les cas b\u00e9nins, cela n\u2019emp\u00eache pas l\u2019\u00e9panouissement de la personne, mais on pourrait en dire autant de nombreux troubles psychiques. Avec un peu de respect et de connaissance de la situation, ces personnes trouvent encore leur place dans notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Il existe toutefois une diff\u00e9rence selon le sexe. Le TDAH touche trois fois plus de gar\u00e7ons que de filles.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Des facteurs d\u00e9favorables tels que la pauvret\u00e9, les probl\u00e8mes familiaux, la violence ou d\u2019autres troubles du d\u00e9veloppement peuvent aggraver la situation. Le TDAH est plus fr\u00e9quent en ville qu\u2019\u00e0 la campagne. On le retrouve dans tous les pays et dans toutes les cultures. Beaucoup d\u00e9pendra de la mani\u00e8re dont on le prend en charge. Tous les moyens l\u00e9gaux sont bons pour accompagner un enfant vuln\u00e9rable \u00e0 travers les ann\u00e9es scolaires et jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge adulte.<\/span><\/h3>\n

De nombreuses strat\u00e9gies sont possibles, et l\u2019une d\u2019elles consiste \u00e0 prendre des m\u00e9dicaments. Je ne doute pas qu\u2019il existe des enfants pour lesquels cela soit crucial, et il en va tout autant plus tard pour les adultes. Ce qui est \u00e9trange, c\u2019est que ce trouble ne figurait pas dans la formation des psychiatres pour adultes et qu\u2019il \u00e9tait \u00e9galement inconnu des m\u00e9decins g\u00e9n\u00e9ralistes.<\/span><\/h3>\n
