The Dressing Room<\/b><\/p>\n

The mask through which I encounter myself:<\/span>
\n<\/span>Stripped of myself and all my possessions.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Who would not wish to mask his defects?<\/span><\/p>\n

To powder away freckles and moles,<\/span>
\n<\/span>To hide the wrinkles of age.<\/span><\/p>\n

A removable object, mute and dumb,<\/span>
\n<\/span>Hanging there uselessly, yet beneath its guise<\/span>
\n<\/span>Harboring a void that cannot be made up.<\/span><\/p>\n

The mask!<\/span><\/p>\n

With hollow eyes it stared back at me<\/span>
\n<\/span>While a cold shiver climbed through me,<\/span>
\n<\/span>The urge to smear myself with makeup,<\/span><\/p>\n

To become a theatrical personage,<\/span>
\n<\/span>With blazing applause in the stalls all around.<\/span><\/p>\n
